White Pelicans
American white pelicans spend their winters in the area of the Gulf of Mexico. They spend their summers in the upper Great Plains and Upper Midwest. Each spring and fall, they migrate along the Mississippi through the area of northwest Illinois. In recent years, many have stayed in the area and nested here.
